Spring (Nursing) - SHU in Dingle

Olivia Banks - Nursing

Olivia Banks

Nursing
Hi! My name is Olivia Banks and I am a senior nursing student. In my sophomore spring semester, I studied abroad in Dingle, Ireland. Dingle became a second home for me. The local were all welcoming and kind to the SHU students. I met a lot of people within SHU and people who lived in Dingle. As for nursing, I was able to do a two day clinical in Tralee, Ireland. This was an experience that I will never forget because it was different medical terms that nurses used in America. While abroad, I loved to travel to many places with friends. I highly recommend to stay in hostels because it is one of the cheapest options to stay at. Academic classes were held in the middle of Dingle and was only a 10 minute walk from where the students stayed. The professors were from Ireland and spoke in a Gaelic accent, which was awesome. The building was a church-like place and there was a yard where some of our classes were held. I would recommend everyone to study abroad even if someone was on the fence about it. At first, I was very nervous and I knew many students that were too. By the end of my spring semester, nobody wanted to leave Dingle because it became a special place for all the students.

Mariana Virote - Nursing

Mariana Virote

Nursing
My name is Mariana Virote, I am originally from New Jersey and am a junior nursing student. I studied abroad last spring my sophomore year in Dingle, Ireland. I personally love traveling and photography so this was such a treat for me to get to explore the world some more, especially while studying and earning credit at the same time. I met some wonderful residents of Dingle, made great friends with both Ireland natives as well as with those who I studied abroad with, and ate some REALLY amazing food. With some friends who I met while studying abroad, I traveled to Spain for our week of spring break. I loved experiencing the different cultures of both Ireland and Spain, hearing different languages and engaging in new activities. Traveling overseas without my parents was a first, which seemed scary at first but my overall experience was life changing, as cliché as that sounds it is true. I know who I am better now than I ever have and have grown thanks to Dingle. I would do it all again in a heartbeat.

I studied abroad the summer of my freshman year for two weeks in Dingle Ireland. Over there I took a sports marketing course. It was an incredible experience academically and regularly. In my course I had the opportunity to work with my peers on a project where we designed products for the local rugby team. We learned all about the culture and the nature of the game, and had the opportunity to teach middle school children the nuances of American sports games as well. Additionally, we had the opportunities to explore the town, learning the history and absorbing its beauty. We lived at the pace of their country and enjoyed every moment of it. I would go back in a heartbeat.
