Through guided reflections, you will receive an introduction to The Human Journey, the University’s core curriculum. The Human Journey focuses on four fundamental and enduring questions of human meaning and value:
- What does it mean to be human?
- What does it mean to live a life of meaning and purpose?
- What does it mean to understand and appreciate the natural world?
- What does it mean to forge a more just society for the common good?
The experience of being in Dingle adds a unique opportunity to visit historical sites where humans developed civilization a thousand years ago. Many significant medieval Christian chapels and monasteries dot the landscape. Situated on a peninsula on the most western coast of Europe, the west coast of Ireland was often seen as the edge of the world. This unique coastal environment engenders questions about the place of humanity in creation and the ethics of ecology and future sustainability. Thus, the Pre-Fall program prepares students for a deeper and richer understanding of SHU’s study of The Human Journey.
